    LOCATIONS: Matewan PK8

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Aide employed for the purpose of working within the special education program may be required to ride the bus conveying such youngsters and to assist with their needs in boarding and disembarking from the bus as well as assisting the teacher with classroom instruction, assisting children with toileting needs, lifting physically handicapped children as needed and assisting in the administration of emergency first aid care. The aide will be required to follow physician’s instructions regarding special medical care required for all children. The aide will provide approved specialized health care procedures (catheterization, suctioning of tracheostomy, nasogastric tube feeding or gastrostomy tube feeding and distributing medication). Such procedures shall be delegated by the certified school nurse. The school nurse shall provide for training, retraining and supervision, and upon completion certify satisfactory level of competence before school employees perform certain health care procedures.

    This position may have a bus run so the initial/annual special needs bus training must be passed and renewed while in this position or other positions who may be called to have bus duty.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    The aide employed for the purpose of autism mentor must possess the qualifications as outlined by the West Virginia Department of Education for Autism Mentor or if successful applicant does not possess the qualifications, he/she must be willing to obtain the Autism Mentor certification within two years. He/she must be a high school graduate or received a general education development certificate.

    The applicant will provide demonstrable competencies in reading, writing, spelling, and mathematics. He/She will demonstrate verbal and written expression as well as the ability to follow both oral and written instructions. The aide will be required to have medical training necessary to follow a physician’s instructions using equipment designed for physically handicapped children. The aide will be required to demonstrate knowledge of first aid. The aide must be physically capable of lifting physically handicapped children in need of assistance. The aide will be required to have medical training necessary to follow the nurse’s instruction regarding specialized health procedures. This means, but is not limited to, catheterization, suctioning of tracheostomy, nasogastric tube feeding or gastrostomy tube feeding. Any aide who will be involved with the preparation or serving of foods will be required to secure a food handler’s permit from the Marshall County Health Department.

    The applicant must be able to independently lift and toilet children 100 – 150 pounds and over.

    The applicant will also demonstrate the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position as contained in the job description, with or without reasonable accommodation.

    EMPLOYMENT TERM: Normal contract: 200 days, typically eight hours per day, but flexible as needed by bus run or student needs. Anticipated start date of August 2024.

    SALARY: Salary based on experience and education level per MCS BOE salary schedule

    Health and basic life insurance provided through West Virginia's Public Employees Insurance Agency. Health insurance premiums, which vary by plan and coverage level, split 80/20 between employer and employee. Basic life insurance provided at no cost to the employee.
    Position requires enrollment in the Teachers Retirement System through West Virginia Consolidated Public Retirement Board. New enrollees contribute 6% of gross salary with a matching contribution by the Board of 7.5%. Vestment requires 10 years of qualified service. Withdraw of employee contributions available upon leaving employment with a WV county board of education if deisred.
    15 annual days of personal leave provided, pro-rated for those hired after the start of the current employment term. Up to 4 days may be used each school year without cause pursuant to state and local policies.
